I have a small stack of books, waiting to be signed. No immediate plans, though, so I will take a break from my book blog for now.
In honor of Albert Einstein's birthday, I have two books. One, "Einstein's Dreams," is signed in February of 2001 by author Alan Lightman; however the book was damaged and so the title page is not attached to the new copy. The second book, is "A Question of God, " poems signed by author Andrew Jantz in October of 2002.
Today's books were bought at a used bookshop in Concord, Massachusetts. From 1872, "Concord Days" by A. Bronson Alcott, and "Work" by his daughter, Louisa May Alcott, 1873. The first title belonged to a library and had the bookplates removed. The library now has an electronic copy of the book, but I will contact them to see if they want their copy back. (There is a library seal on the paper.) The second book, is all mine!
Update: I heard from the library director today (3/14) that the electronic copy of "Concord Days" is filling patrons' needs, so I can keep the original copy. Today's book is, "Fire in the Orchard," a book of poetry signed by the author, Gary Margolis on October 3, 2003, in Cambridge Massachusetts. This was at a reading by the author sponsored by the Grolier Poetry Book Shop.
Today's book is, "Principles of Literary Criticism," by I.A. RIchards as part of the International Library of Psychology, Philosophy and Scientific Method series, published in England.
Today's book is the very first issue of a literary journal called, "Fulcrum," based in Cambridge, Massachusetts. The journal is signed by its two editors, Katia Kapovich and Philip Nikolayev, both poets and married partners, on November 12, 2002 at an event at Harvard University.
Today's book is "The Principles of Art Education: " by Hugo Munsterberg, 1905. The book is inscribed by Fred H. Daniels, Springfield, Mass. Jan. 1907.
The year seems to indicate that the book may have belonged to the artist, Fred H. Daniels. Today's book is, "The WIne-Press" by Alfred Noyes, from 1913. The collector looked at correspondence between the author and Arthur Quiller-Couch in a visit to Trinity College Archives at the University of Oxford in February of 2002.
Today's book is, "Me and Shakespeare: Adventures with the Bard," signed August 11, 2003 by author Herman Gollob, in New York City.
For these two days at the end of the week, the books I have are, "Ambassador's Journal," from 1969 signed to me around the year 2000 (undated) and "Economics and the Public Purpose," signed in 1973, both by John Kenneth Galbraith. His obituary is here: http://www.economist.com/node/6877092 |
